FAQ

Q. What is Democracy for Tennessee?

A. We are the local affiliate of Democracy for America -- the organization that grew out of Howard Dean's presidential campaign. Our main chapter is in Nashville, but we also have chapters in Chattanooga, Knoxville and Oak Ridge. We are looking for leaders in Memphis and elsewhere in Tennessee.

Q. What does DFT do?

A. Our goal is to promote Progressive candidates in "down ticket" races. Those are primarily contests for state representative, county, city and school positions.

Q. Why do you care about local elections?

A. Virtually every politican gets his or her start at the local level. If we can find good Progressives and help their win their elections, we're helping start people on careers that will have an impact on the state and national levels.

Once elected, those candidates can also support policies designed to create better lives for everyone rather than just special interests.

Q. How do I join?

A. Just go to our sign up page and let us know that you'd like to be a member.

Q. Are there any dues?

A. No. Membership is free, but we need contributions to continue our work. While we like money, the most important thing you can contribute is your time.

Q. How can I get involved?

A. That's what we want to hear! There are lots of ways to get involved. Our main goal is to help elect candidates, so we want people who are willing to work on campaigns. That means everything from stuffing envelopes to making phone calls to knocking on doors. When you visit our sign up page, you can check what activities you're interested in.
